Teachers are the foundation of education. We at NESC believe that our project should serve teachers and their professional development. When we support teachers, we support student academic growth and access to opportunity.
To support teachers, NESC has aligned its activities with the current Teacher Professional Development Scheme (TPDS). On this page you will find detailed information about credit points available through TPDS for Practitioner and Senior teachers who participate in NESC.

Credit Point Opportunities for All Teachers
Practicioner and Senior Teachers can receive credit points under the National TPDS system for the following activities:
Preparing students for competition
Practitioner and Senior teachers who prepare students for the NESC-GE competition can earn 0.5 credit points.
Teachers can prepare one student or a group of students for competition. NESC-GE will provide teachers and schools with scanned copies of all certificates awarded to their participating students. NESC will provide lesson plan ideas to teachers via the NESC Spells Success Blog.

- Scanned copy of a certificate of participation in a NESC-GE competition round (1 or more students)
- Outline of the lessons used to prepare students with brief activity descriptions for each lesson (click HERE for a lesson plan template)
- A teacher reflection statement (click HERE for details on how to write a reflection statement)
- Submit all above documents to the school’s teacher assessment group
Social or community project
:English teachers can receive 0.50 credit points for designing a social project in their community. The social project should identify a problem that affects a specific person, group, class or community. NESC is a great project for encouraging students to work together no matter their ethnic, religious or social background, especially since it uses English as the language to be shared and learned.
To qualify for 0.50 credit points, teachers must complete the following:

- Identify a social problem and design a project plan to address this problem (click HERE for a template and HERE for a sample plan idea)
- Complete a reflection after completion of the project (click HERE for details on how to write a reflection statement)
- Submit all above documents to the school’s teacher assessment group
- Receive at least a 60% score (24/40 points) on your project evaluation from the teacher assessment group (click HERE for the scoring rubric)
- Share information about the project on social media including photos and/or videos in a school group, page or website
Holding a spelling club
Teachers can receive. 0.50 or 1.00 credit point for creating a spelling club to help students study and practice for NESC each year. for 0.50 credit points, the club is held for 1 semester. For 1.00 credit points, the club must be held for the whole year.
- Create a page on the school website or a social media page with the clubs name, rules, days it meets, the purpose of the club, and how to join the club
- Create an application for the club (click HERE for a template for a spelling club application)
- Create an plan for the structure of the club and club lessons for the year (click HERE for a lesson plan template and HERE for a syllabus template)
- Upload photos/videos from the club work throughout the year (not at the end all at once)
- Create a club survey for students to complete at the end of the year and record results (click HERE for a template to create a survey)
- Upload club link to teacher's e-school folder (must also link to photos/videos from club)
- Upload teacher reflection to e-school folder (click HERE for details on how to write a reflection statement)
- Upload student survey to e-school folder
Credit Point Opportunities for Regional Coordinators
NESC will offer teachers the opportunity to be Regional Coordinators. Regional Coordinators will help plan and host the Regional Round of NESC in partnership with a Peace Corps volunteer. Regional Coordinators will be offered additional credit point opportunities.
Regional Coordinator Points are available to Senior Teachers.

Only one teacher per region will be selected to be a Regional Coordinator. This is a competitive application process.
Present at a conference
Regional Coordinators can earn 1.00 credit points for presenting at an ETAG conference. Regional Coordinators will be invited to join ETAG for free and will be given the chance to attend a conference the last week of February. Teachers will be given a topic and outline to present at the conference, which they can modify and edit as they wish. More details will be provided to Regional Coordinators after the apply.

- Provide a scanned copy of the conference agenda which includes proof that a teacher presented to the teacher's assessment group
- Provide a copy of the presentation and presentation notes to the teacher's assessment group
host a spelling summer camp
Teachers can earn 1.00 credit points for holding a summer camp for students. To assist Regional Coordinators with this credit point, NESC will provide these individuals with an outline for a spelling summer camp to last for 5 days, 4 hours a day. The summer camp outline will include suggested activities, schedule, and a directions on how to promote the camp.

- Promote the summer camp on a school website or on a social media page including date, time, purpose, activities and who can attend
- Promote the activities of the camp by posting photos and/or videos daily on the website or social media page
- Create an application form for the summer camp and promote it on the website or social media page and distribute it to students
- Upload summer camp website link to teacher's e-school folder including access to photos and/or videos
- Create and upload a student summer camp evaluation form to e-school folder
- Upload teacher reflection on summer camp to e-school folder
Credit Point Opportunities for Peace Corps Partner Teachers
If you are a teacher who has a Peace Corps Volunteer as a partner in your classroom, you can qualify for additional credit points under the Peace Corps reporting system. Ask your volunteer for more details on reporting.

Holding a local or regional competition
Teachers who are currently partnered with a Peace Corps volunteer can earn 0.50 credit points under the Peace Corps framework for holding a school-based competition. For teachers to receive this credit point they must:
- Plan the school-based competition with a volunteer and document the steps for the competition for at least 4 hours total
- Advertise the competition to students and get students to attend the competition and/or participate
- Host the competition at your school and provide certificates to students for participation
- Write a reflection on the activity (click HERE for details on how to write a reflection statement)
- Report the activity at the end of the year to Peace Corps with assistance from your Peace Corps volunteer
